WTH 2005: Spoofing Fingerprints within 10 minutes.
Nice speech that demonstrated how fast you can reproduce a valid fingerprint. 10 Years ago you had to do much more engineering for a proper copy than today. Demonstrating what the Chaos Computer Club also had done in this -nice video-. With modern equipment like a good digital camera, photoshop(gimp of coarse) and a laser printer you are able to build a replica that would be accepted by the most scanner systems, even if they feature things like ‘live detection’ (eg. heat, sweat..) Important was speakers note on where fingerprints should be used. They are not totally doomed, to unlock your screen saver, use it on some cellphone applications and so on is ok, but how brain dead are countries and companies that want to use this biometric fingerprint on serious documents, like passports and bank accounts for example.
