Poke on GSM

So, first I have to tell that I always had a state of the art vintage cellphone. A few weeks ago my old Nokia died. I don’t remember a number but is was an DCT1 type. As an replacement I afford a 3210 hightech engine, at least four years old it seams to be the right toy for me.
With this I dig into this GSM/Cellphone stuff for the first time. During the mainstream bored me with pictures and atari sounds, I want to know more an this little computers, and I discovered a lot…
First my one is a depressive ugly device with a mind like marvin the robot and the flexibility of a gold bar wrapped around with lemon slices… I got a serial cable on ebay and our first conversation was done with gnokii, Addressbook sync, SMS writing and logo editing – fine.
The Netmonitor has more features for nerds. Detailed information about your connection to the GSM Network are right in the first menu. Funny is the distance indicator ‘ff’ with a little math you can measure your speed relative to the next BTS.
I was really amazed as I found a not really well documented Menu96 it shows up a temperature once in Celsius and once in Kelvin. After a few tests it proved that it shows about 3-5 degree plus to the outside temperature. Kewl, so I found a thermometer in my speedo
I’m not really sure but I think the sensors is located in the RF chip for proper calibration?
A disadvantage of the European 3210 is the fact that there is no Vibration build in this phone. But this is an essential feature for me because I hate ringtones and for waking me up a cell dancing on a glass table is enough. So I came across this link 3210 Vibration[German]. – Cool, a little motor is ordered I’ll report success.
